SERVER MIGRATION TO THE CLOUD
Established in 1961, Merityre is one of the UK’s leading regional tyre retailers and fast-fit specialists. They have over 24 centres located across the Home Counties. They have been a customer of Lynx Networks since 1998.
Merityre’s IT operated on 10 on-site servers that were rapidly approaching end-of-life. Not only would the servers and operating systems soon not be supported by the manufacturers, but the ever-increasing workloads being demanded of them were having a negative effect on their performance. Replacing every server would require a large capital investment and a very large upheaval over a short period of time with a high degree of risk that was unacceptable to the business. With a view to get a cost-effective solution that would provide improved processing and networking speeds, Merityre started a discussion with Lynx Networks about their options.
After discussing their requirement with Lynx, it quickly became apparent that a cloud solution could provide the performance Merityre’s operations demanded, whilst offering greatly reduced capital investment compared to an on-site solution. We proposed migrating their entire infrastructure to our Lynx Flex Cloud Server solution.
Not only would Flex Server improve performance and reduce upfront costs, but it would also greatly increase the security of their IT infrastructure, as it would be housed in a Tier 3+ data centre and be protected by next-generation Cisco security (without the cost of ownership). The solution would also allow Merityre’s IT department to focus on other projects as core hardware maintenance would now be outsourced to Lynx Networks.
Now that the whole of Merityre’s server estate is in the Lynx Flex cloud, the overall reliability of the servers has increased by a very significant percentage. The original on-site equipment required constant fire-fighting which in turn meant regular downtime for business-critical systems. Ashley Brown, IT Manager at Merityre, is delighted with the outcome as it has meant he can concentrate on new projects to further increase the efficiency of the business. With Lynx Flex, Ashley’s worries about server uptime, maintenance, security and backup are a thing of the past as he can confidently leave these in the hands of the Lynx technical team knowing that he will get regular updates on performance from them.
